ZAPS Technologies Patents Optical Platform to Monitor Aircraft De-icing Fluids Runoff!

Philomath, Oregon, December 5, 2008 - ZAPS Technologies is pleased to announce receiving U.S. patent 7,411,668 for a novel optical platform used to rapidly detect and identify multiple anomalies in liquids.  The patent was authored by Dr. Gary Klinkhammer, Chief Scientist of ZAPS Technologies.
Globally increasing concern for the environment and public safety has led Dr. Klinkhammer to water quality monitoring as one of the first areas of focus in applying his technology to practical use.  ZAPS Technologies intends to leverage this patent by creating a continuous, accurate, and concurrent multiple contaminants sensing system.  Key features of the system enabled by the patented technology are:

  • Multiple optical analytical techniques provide the broadest range possible of contaminant detection in a single device.
  • 50HZ sampling rate enables real-time contaminant detection.

  • Extremely cost effective plug & play equipment designs based on solid state optics, hands-free operation, minimal ongoing maintenance, and no need for reagents.

About Dr. Klinkhammer.

Dr. Klinkhammer is a geochemist with over 25 years of experience in environmental monitoring. His research includes the design of chemical sensors for environmental and oceanographic applications, chemical analysis of geologic materials by plasma mass spectrometry, and the study of particle-metal interactions. Dr. Klinkhammer has led the development of improvements in the field of remote spectroscopy by capitalizing on advances in fiber optic technology and microelectronics.
