Matthew Johnen - CEO / COO

Mr. Johnen has over 30 years management experience at several hi-tech startups commercializing research, with technologies involving optical, laser, high precision mechanical systems, data storage and management, high speed data processing, software development, test development, and visualization.  Applicable to what ZAPS can do for clients, while VP of Global Materials for Seagate Technology, Mr. Johnen implemented company wide processes adapting technological solutions that dramatically streamlined and improved corporate effectiveness.

Nicholas Fowler - Chairman of the Board

Mr. Nick Fowler is an industry veteran with 25 years of high technology experience within the Hewlett-Packard Company. He has led the creation of several major new businesses including notebook computers, personal digital assistants, and internet sales and support; has created new business models; and has managed large and complex organizations. Mr. Fowler attended Stanford University where he earned a B.A. in Economics and an M.S. in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management. He sits on the Boards of several businesses as well as charitable and non-profit organizations.

Gary Klinkhammer - Chief Science Officer

Dr. Gary Klinkhammer is a geochemist with over 25 years of experience in environmental monitoring and has an international reputation in the Earth sciences. His research includes the design of chemical sensors, analysis of environmental samples and study of particle-metal interactions. Dr. Klinkhammer has published more than 90 research papers with over 3300 citations.
 
Dr. Klinkhammer has been a researcher at the University of Rhode Island, Leeds and Cambridge Universities in the UK and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is currently a Professor at Oregon State University and Director of the W.M. Keck Collaboratory for Plasma Spectrometry. Dr. Klinkhammer holds MS and PhD degrees sponsored by the National Science Foundation and US Environmental Protection Agency. 
 

Paul McClelland - CTO

With over 40 years of industry experience, Paul brings world class materials, processing, and product development expertise. Paul was with Hewlett Packard (HP) in Corvallis from 1977 to 2002, working on the original development of the first HP thermal ink jet pen and served for 5 years as Section Manager and Senior Scientist of the Advanced Materials and Process Laboratory in HP’s Imaging and Printing Group. Paul is a prolific inventor, with over 50 issued US patents. To date, HP has never sold an inkjet printing cartridge that does not use at least one of the patents and processes that Paul developed. Prior to joining HP, Paul was a CRT process development engineer and Industrial Engineering Group Leader at Tektronix from 1966 to 1977. Paul received his B.S. in chemistry from Portland State University and M.S. in chemistry from the University of Arizona.
 

Michael Brown - VP, Marketing & Business Development

Mike has over 25 years of high technology product development experience with Hewlett-Packard, Compaq, and WL Gore, as well as involvement in several startup companies.
